SUMMER MAGIC...Moonbeams graze my cheek with their silken swirl,
disrobing the dark in my eyes with a silver heat
that attracts to me damask moths and obsidian
butterflies, from my balcony I watch amber and
amethyst lend their accent to the Sky, leading
astray mysteries that Time had forgotten the names
of their hues, I watch dreams unfurl from chimneys,
studding Summer with their star anise symmetry
as they question why I make the Day my slumberbed,
instead I comb the Night for a sinew of inspiration
that won't melt away-like ice cream sugaring the
lush ember grass, the air is incensed with lilac
as Dusk fans through my stiletto lashes her stil

CALL OF THE MERMAIDTwilight defuses my mind with color, carving me
open until my seadrift veins split apart like
the clouds vanilla and lavender, out leaks a sweet
peppery memory of when I laid on the beach and
glimpsed a village in the surf, around my neck
I wore a chain of Stars, they kept my Imagination
warm as I remembered basking on a pearly-shelled
beach, seaspray aquamarine glistened in my sunkissed
tresses, the minutes were sand trickling through
the hourglass of Days, and my Days were a shimmering
shell that I held to my conch ear and listened
to the call of the Mermaid, pure as can be.

A KITCHEN WITCHThe cooking fires I light with a switch of my broom,
they kindle under my cauldron, within my kitchen's heart
recipes I conjure, the flavors of my spell stick to my spoon,
they moisten my intention, bewitches with aromas my hearth.

Sage and saffron, rosemary and thyme,
I charm their cadences to unfurl my magic,
cinnamon and vanilla bring to life the rhyme,
I summon memories with each pepperment lick.

My kitchen is my altar and I the witch sublime
who conjures in my cauldron recipes and spells
and honeyed locusts, their edible love I make mine,
so many memories reminisce in my incantation of smells.

A MURDER OF INNOCENCEI thought I heard it, a cry torn from an
innocent throat, the Night's luminous fringe
was blemished by the wicked sounds of cruelty
cannibalizing the innocent, broken cries
pitching high pain and fear were all she had
to give as her life was raped by a monster,
cold and cowardly he cloaked his cruel crime
in shadow, this innocent's light soon flickered
as another blow left her broken, her innocence
raped, a soul purely bled died this Night...
and the Silence that followed was so chilling
and final...and I cried as I heard this murder
of innocence, I cried for she who no longer cried.

MY POET'S BLOODSHEDIn the Night I flay the skin off my soul
with the bloody end of my faithful quill,
the explosion of my emotion sharpens my skill
into another poetic bloodshed, again I cannot
sleep-I can hardly stand under the weight
of my tears resurrecting another memory from
my body's misused tissue, my heart oh please
don't break before another poem I bleed onto
this virgin paper, pale and cold it waits...
waiting for my sorrow to dismantle my treasury
of Hurt into multi-jeweled words for people
to read and appreciate their bloodshed splendor,
freshly plucked from my flesh, I gouge out my
eyes and fill their sightless sockets with
Innocence

MISPLACED IN TIMEInto the Light shining inward I retreat to explore my intrinsic reflection,
I discover my make-up reduced to a collage of questions, so my confession
I must make before I break wide, who am I and why does confusion
reign inside? Who am I but the idol of my fondest delusion?

I feel I am living out-of-step, the world spinning out of control
so fast that I've lost the fragile balance I need to make me whole,
I fear I have been misplaced in Time, my energy warped and dispersed
into a world that is not mine, to escape it my imagination I nursed.

that has me blurring t

INTO KALI, I SHATTEROh Kali, Devourer of the Divine Darkness,
into the infinite Day the Night takes root,
bleeding to belong...the vulnerable ache
to be strong, with you may I find that Fire
in my belly to devour pain and anger with
every juicy cell of my self power, my Spirit
is full-yet I hunger to know the timepiece
ticking in the bright shadows of your Moon,
you exist in the wild will that I have learned
to embrace, it's a part of me with mysteries
breathing, cleaving to the cosmic swell of
your wisdom, fetal hours you dissolve into
the dust of blood and bone, feeding from
prisms of spontaneous light as I sacrifice
myself to your fatality, oh

MUSES OF MOONLIGHTAs the Night navigates by the cobwebs and ivy,
and the shadows blanket my still glowing nude,
I hear the dew that cling to my dreams, shimmering
with the fragrant gauzy buzz of cicada wings,
the Stars my pillow-they cushion my narrow slice
of reality so I may wander wild among the tangled
growth-where every unfurling leaf catches a poem
and legends linger in the corners of Moonbeams,
unsettling the dust from the shadows so I can dream
continuously, a perfect repose of chameleon mood
eclipses me as I skewer my heart with my quill,
writing out my last bloodbeat I dedicate it
to those Muses of Moonlight I navigate by...

THE SILENT SWANThe Sea's blue breathing womb gave birth
to all creatures, giving life to Silence,
speech to the Unconscious, sight to the
Blind, but something extraordinary also
emerged from out of the Sea's native waters
-a swan emerged, she was the most exquisite
and glorious bird that the Waters of Life
had ever birthed, her Beauty shone like
supple silver, so pure that it stole the
speech and sight of all worldly creatures
who gazed upon her singular greatness,
but this swan was born a mute, as mute
as unwritten paper, she had no halcyon
voice, she had no living note to sing.

eyes-in her gracefu

THE SCENT OF A SEASONHe pours coffee into his next kiss-
and sugar too, chasing the meekness
from her skin's milky goodness with
his undressing heat, oh how sweet
she tastes, this monsoon shaped by
Summer Skies, breathlessly he gazes
at her-how her bare skin unzippered
by Yesterday's hurt-now slips away
and reveals her peachcream blushes,
he remembers the length of her coolness
pressed warmly against his organic
wardrobe, her sachet scenting his memory
to forget any other season than hers,
the clouds roll in, gnashing their
teeth against the violent loosening
of their thick pedigree, and the air
grows wet like trees uprooted by the
drowning of d

SUMMER DISTILLERYSummer left me distilled, a sigh riding the
nape of hummingbird wings-until I found new
meaning curling beneath my breasts, I will
always remember the kisses I stole from the
pores of a fragile Sky, and breaths arching
against rainbows freshly bedded, I yearned
to drink them in with my eyes until my Silence
was drunken happy, but my tongue had split
into starlight as the memory of you fluttered
beneath my skin with the scarlet singe of
hummingbird wings, now a year gone mad later
...the fire no longer burns the skin away
from my swollen moon, it has simmered down
into a slow steady smoulder in which I dip
my faithful quill to wr

WEEPING WILLOWMy heart leaps up beyond the wishing excursions
of Summer when I see you standing alone in the
solitude of your ancestor glade, with tender tears
you weep to the tempo of this land's rural architecture,
Weeping Willow, your beauty is a memory too green
to stay, too rare to last beyond this season's late
sensitive spurs, still your spirit is embalmed in
rustic strength as your ageless roots drink the
milk from Gaia's deep bosom, it rushes through you
-amber hot and amber cool-but as I look at you
content in your simple living I am left to wonder,
Weeping Willow, why does your sweeping leaves hang
down like tears, forsakened to this

SIREN'S SONGPassion pulls me under the waves, sweet
and strong, I crest these moonlit waters
as they lift me up, a song that captured
visions of this deep abyss I call my home,
I sing my madness in notes that spiral
outward from my halcyon throat, into the
silversapphire shimmer of a dream they float,
the Sea's sensual slide pulls me under again
as I sing of the beauty that eclipses my
pure heart, oh I dare not breathe through
my permeable eyes lest the Stars within drown.

I am haunted by a lifetime of loneliness
that gilds my voice, none can escape my
melodious lure-neither can I escape to the
shore of sanity when the Sea shimmers blue
in

GECKO LADYWhen Time has stolen the blush from my bloom
and my skin has withered into creased crinoline,
I'll be the loony gecko lady people gossip about
when they see me-climbing a tree so I can catch
a stray beam of sun in my teeth-or basking at
Midnight-soaking up a shot of lunar brilliance,
I will dwell in a room concocted from the stuff
of poesy and live off of chocolate seashells,
I will be the neighbourhood eccentric who
shuns people and is only gregarious with geckos,
who never wears panties or carries an umbrella
and howls at the Moon-even when she's sleeping
at the break of noon, I will laugh for no reason
in the elevator and never dust for fe

Draped in soft sweet light
Enchanting and beguiling
With promise of delight
Tender is the moment
When lips at last do meet
The flame of passion's fire
Stirring up love's heat
Lost in land of rapture
Our fingers trace the way

Comes the sweetest moaning
When silken folds are reached
Tides of pleasure building
As barriers are breached
Urgency now building
With every loving touch

JUST A JEWELI am just a jewel with brown eyes, lukewarm
from inhaling chocolate and milk-written words,
my skin is pale from the passengers of poetry
I let ride me through silver-haired Nights;
I am just a jewel drinking merrymint tea and
unlacing my feet so they may dance to the lyrics
of light, capturing me in the navel of my home;

I am just a jewel enticing the tastebuds of
butterflies to give up their sweetness to the
trinity of Moonlight and Fairies and Poetry,
they penetrate the Night's virginity-as I do

TO GINGER, MY BEST FRIEND

While all the world is wet with
rumor, I turn to the inward radiance
I only find by the white lips of
Ginger's comfort, cool upon my
flameless full moon lips, a wreath
of mist carries away my sleepless
fears and twilight tears when I am
with you, my sweet Gingercakes, the
world fades away...her empty eyes

I WANT TO BE A UNICORN

Some say they want to see a unicorn and see the magic that be,
but I want to be a unicorn and be the unfurling magic I see,
an innocent child of nature, my lunar goodness I will reflect
in every rippling current my horn annoints, evil I will deflect
far from me and those who believe in the power of a pure heart
I will come to them, brightening their shade with my mythic art.

I want to be a unicorn and be the magic that is me,
goodness spiraling outward from my being others will see
-and the gentle wisdom reflected in my new moon eyes,
I will live my life with a pure heart sweet and silvery-dyed
by the enchantment spun by the forest fairies of old,
a living legend, turning what is tarnished into gleaming gold.

I want to be a unicorn and be the magic I have always been,
my strength will come from within as I embrace what is unseen,
the force of my elemental spirit overflowing with unbound
abundance, at last my personal power I have found,
love is what my aura emits, forever circling from me,
I know I am the unicorn that I've always wanted to be.

This poem was a very quick inspiration. I think it only took me an hour to write. It was inspired by the movie "LEGEND" that I had watched this afternoon. It's a wonderful 1986 fantasy movie about unicorns, fairies, goblins, and stars Tom Cruise.

This is a very light, gentle read, but there are hints of a pace which conveys the life of a unicorn beneath the peace. I also think that the simplicity of the title and couplets seem to give a childlike innocence to the narration, which is pretty fitting for a unicorn.
